Learning happens when students actively respond — and get feedback.
For RBTs and the K–5 teams they work with: build engagement into every step of instruction — more student responses, better feedback, smarter error correction and fewer escape behaviors — without lowering expectations.

Is this for you?
The behavior-informed lesson
Build skills step by step — from modeling, to supported practice, to independence — while every student stays engaged.
STEP 1
Instruction
STEP 2
Guided Practice
STEP 3
Active Responding
STEP 4
Feedback
STEP 5
Independent Practice
Engagement check
If most students aren’t responding during practice, add more active responding before moving on.
Error correction
Brief, specific and encouraging — 30–60 seconds, then back to the lesson.
Prevent escape
Match the trigger to task analysis, clearer supports, structured choice or smaller chunks.
Course structure
Short, practical lessons with a knowledge check after each module.
1
Behavior and Learning
Learning depends on behavioral engagement. The ABC model (antecedent → behavior → consequence) applied to everyday instruction.
2
Active Student Responding
Choral responding, response cards, think-pair-share and guided practice — aiming for 80%+ of students responding.
3
Reinforcement in Instruction
Specific praise, token systems and group reinforcement — and how to fade them toward intrinsic motivation.
4
Error Correction
Model → guided practice → independent attempt, in 30–60 seconds, preserving confidence and effort.
5
Preventing Instructional Escape
When tasks feel too hard, unclear or overwhelming: task analysis, scaffolding, structured choice and pacing.
6
Behavior-Informed Lesson Design
Putting it together in one lesson sequence that maximizes engagement and prevents avoidance.
7
Classroom Case Studies
A 4-step framework practiced with real K–5 reading, writing and math cases.
8
Course Wrap & Application
Bringing the tools together into your own lessons.
