Assent Safety — Supervisors

For Supervisors Non-physical leadership certification

Assent-Based Safety Training

Assent Safety — Certified Supervisor

If supervisor training is weak, certification becomes symbolic.

This course trains BCBAs and clinical leaders to deliver Assent Basic Safety with BST fidelity, score practitioners to one calibrated standard, review every override, and correct ethical drift before it becomes culture.

At a glance

What’s included

3modules on authority, BST and system correction
10lessons with a training manual and worksheet
4step BST sequence, delivered with fidelity
3part calibration evaluation before certification

The problem

Safety systems drift — quietly.

Without a supervisor turning the dial on clinical standards, override use inflates and documentation degrades. It rarely happens in one incident; it happens across months of approvals.

01

Override inflation

Physical interventions creep upward for lower-risk behavior.

02

Over-classification

“Agitation” gets labeled “risk” to justify more control.

03

Documentation shortcuts

Labels and vague phrases replace topographies.

04

Normalized intensity

Louder tones and closer proximity become the default.

This course makes the supervisor the gatekeeper.

What makes this different

Supervisors who can train, evaluate and calibrate.

Calibration, not content review

Supervisors are certified on whether they can apply and enforce the standard — not on whether they watched the lessons.

BST with fidelity

Instruction, modeling, rehearsal and feedback. Rehearsal is never skipped, and mastery means error-free performance.

Scoring you can defend

Behaviorally anchored fidelity scoring and inter-rater calibration: two supervisors, one case, the same result.

Systems, not blame

Post-incident debriefs, pattern detection and policy correction stop drift at the system level.

The core protocol

The Post-Incident Debrief Sequence

Debriefing is procedural, not conversational. A safe outcome does not validate a flawed process.

1

Review documentation

Read the report and data first.

2

Reconstruct the timeline

Behavior and response, in order.

3

Identify decision points

Where could modification have occurred?

4

Evaluate proportionality

Did intensity match the risk?

5

Determine corrective action

Assign it. Monitor recurrence.

Certification

Earned by calibration, not attendance.

Certification is issued only when every component is passed. If one is missed, the supervisor gets specific feedback and remediation, with up to three attempts.

  1. 1Complete all 10 lessons and their worksheets.
  2. 2Pass the Supervisor Calibration Exam with 85% or higher.
  3. 3Submit the written calibration tasks: case analysis, override justification and a scoring exercise.
  4. 4Pass the live calibration session at 90%: case defense, mock BST delivery and scoring within 10% of the master key.
  5. 5Show no critical failures. Certification is valid for 12 months.

Who it’s for

BCBA supervisors, clinical directors, program managers, APE coordinators and lead trainers who train, evaluate and sign off on RBT practitioners.

What this course is not

The Supervisors course is a non-physical leadership and certification-authority credential. It does not teach or authorize restraint, holds or physical control techniques, and it does not replace your agency’s policies, state regulations or BACB requirements.

Questions

Does this course teach restraint?

No. It is strictly non-physical leadership and oversight.

Does finishing the lessons certify me?

No. Certification requires the calibration exam, the written tasks and a live calibration session.

What if I don’t pass a component?

You get specific feedback and remediation on that domain, with up to three attempts.

Who evaluates the live calibration?

A BxM evaluator, using the Supervisors rubric and a master scoring key.

Protect the integrity of your safety standard.
